I was recently made aware of ADDitude Magazine; the primary focus of this publication is to inform and support parents of students with Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder. I uncovered an article containing strategies to promote engagement in classroom activities and homework. I quickly realized many of the strategies would benefit ALL students. I have compiled a list that may benefit your child.
  • Change the materials used for homework. Use different paper or writing materials.
  • Share positive personal stories about similar projects you have completed.
  • Change the setting.
  • Read to and with your child. Handle the difficult words immediately, to build confidence.
  • Make reading brief and fun.
  • Photocopy the reading, and highlight important information in different colors.
  • Use math in everyday activities.
  • Use Khan Academy videos (khanacademy.com)
  • Use movement to help your child memorize content.
